The number of beads you need to make a bracelet depends on a few things:
Wrist Size
Average wrist sizes:
Women: 16.5–18 cm
Men: 19–21.5 cm
Children: 12.5–15 cm
Bead Size
Beads are typically measured in millimetres. Here’s a rough guide for how many beads per centimetre:
Bead Size | Wrist 15cm | Wrist 17cm | Wrist 19cm |
4mm | ~ 38 | ~ 43 | ~ 48 |
6mm | ~ 25 | ~ 28 | ~ 32 |
8mm | ~19 | ~ 21 | ~ 24 |
10mm | ~ 15 | ~ 17 | ~19 |
Other considerations
If you are using a clasp, remember that the clasp will add to the final length and don’t forget to include the length of the jump rings too.
Callots and a clasp generally add about 2cm to the finished length so you may require fewer beads
Also, remember to take into account the additional length any spacers or charms may add.
The threading material should also be considered. An elasticated bracelet may need more beads than a bracelet with a clasp due to it not needing a clasp.
